TASK:
This project is focused on designing a Neighbourhood Learning Centre for the USJ14 community, particularly the members of Kebun Komuniti USJ14. It is a continuation of previous explorations that integrated community engagement and environmental awareness through architectural design. The project seeks to create a learning environment that harmonizes with the gardening activities of Kebun Komuniti USJ14, fostering both educational and communal growth.
The design will explore the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces, questioning traditional boundaries and creating fluid transitions that enhance the learning experience. By integrating passive design principles, environmental considerations, and sustainable practices such as composting, the project aims to elevate the spatial quality and user experience.
Proposed Project Spatial Requirements
Usage: USJ14 Neighbourhood Learning Centre
Building Siting: Setbacks 6m from Lot Boundary facing the road, 3m from other boundaries.
Building Height: 2 - 3 Storeys in variations of the cluster typologies: radial, grid, cloistered
Approximate Floor Area
Indoor Spaces: Approximately 900 sqm of net floor area.
Outdoor Spaces: Not included in the 900 sqm are outdoor learning spaces.
REFLECTION:
This project has been a significant milestone in my development as a architect. It has taught me the importance of deeply understanding the context and users before beginning the design process. I have gained valuable insights into the role of architecture in fostering community engagement and promoting sustainability. Moving forward, I plan to carry these lessons into future projects, always striving to create spaces that are not only functional but also resonate with the people who use them and the environment they inhabit."
