PROJECT PHASE
2.2

Individual Assignment

Phase 2.2: Design Development - Architecture for Place-Making
This phase focuses on advancing the architectural strategy into a fully developed design for a Learning Centre in the Merdeka 118 precinct. The goal is to create a meaningful architectural narrative that promotes place-making, addressing urban connectivity, and fostering a thriving public realm. The design emphasizes integrating form, space, and façade with technical, structural, and environmental considerations to ensure a holistic outcome.

Key objectives include resolving spatial layouts, animating the edges through façade design, enhancing site connectivity, and incorporating principles of tropical architecture. The design must reflect the community's cultural and social needs while adhering to accessibility, safety, and sustainability standards. Deliverables include detailed orthographic drawings, models, and visualizations that demonstrate the project's responsiveness to its urban and heritage context. This phase synthesizes theoretical insights with practical solutions to produce an architecture that is functional, adaptable, and rooted in its urban fabric.

REFLECTION:

Phase 2.2 has been a transformative stage, allowing the exploration of how architecture can create meaningful connections within an urban context. Developing the Learning Centre required a deep focus on integrating form, space, and façade design while ensuring the building's responsiveness to the community's needs.

This phase emphasized resolving technical details, structural strategies, and environmental considerations, which significantly enriched my understanding of designing for tropical climates and urban heritage areas. The challenge of balancing functionality with aesthetics pushed me to refine spatial arrangements, enhance façade designs, and create a vibrant public realm that promotes social interaction and place-making.

Overall, this phase reinforced the importance of integrating theory with practice, leading to a design that is contextually rooted, user-centric, and adaptable to evolving community needs.
